IVF Doctor

If you are seriously considering IVF then you have probably realised already that trying to find out success rates of centres is quite difficult not to mention the individual success rates of the IVF doctors within those centres. You would be wise to choose your IVF doctor carefully, here’s why.

There are many reasons why some clinics have better success rates over others. If one clinic attracts a high number of older women then naturally their success rates overall will be low compared to a centre working with mainly younger women. There are other factors to consider though when looking at statistics and that is the percentage of success for individual doctors.

Research has suggested that the specialist who is treating you for your IVF cycles will have an impact on your success rate. It makes sense to think that a more experienced doctor would have better success rates but that information is not always forthcoming.

The area where you cycle success can be impacted greatly has been shown to be during the cycle stimulation phase. If your IVF doctor does not take due care in this particular process then it can be the difference between a positive and a negative pregnancy test at the end of the cycle.

The best thing you can do is look for doctors and centres that are highly regarded and of course have good success rates. Checking recent statistics, say for over the past six months, is wise rather than some outdated data. If you are told that a centre’s success rates are low due to a high number of older women or women and men with significant medical complications, then ask to see the specific numbers.

You really owe it to yourself to attend the best IVF doctor you can locate, paying extra could indeed save you tens of thousands of dollars in the long run as you could need less cycles to become pregnant. Asking your doctor how long they’ve been practising, who will perform each part of your IVF cycle and what is their level of expertise would be very wise. Pay particular attention to who will be in charge of stimulating your cycle and also the egg transfer stage, both are very critical.

IVF doctors are incredible and do amazing work, you deserve the best though and given one cycle of IVF will cost anywhere from $10,000US and upwards, you deserve to have only the best, follow your instincts and you won’t go wrong.

The Conception Chronicles: The Uncensored Truth About Sex, Love & Marriage When You're Trying to Get Pregnant

The Conception Chronicles: The Uncensored Truth About Sex, Love & Marriage When You're Trying to Get Pregnant

When we first started down the baby-making path, we thought we'd be pregnant in no time. We'd just toss out our birth control pills and before we knew it, we'd be rocking our little one to sleep. Little did we know what was in store for us, or the energy it would take to face all of the crazy, unpredictable and (sometimes) irrational emotions we felt along the way. Neither did our husbands. Sound familiar?

  • If your idea of foreplay is screaming, "I'm ovulating; it's time!!!" to your oblivious husband...
  • If your ovulation schedule is ruling your life and every trip to the drug store includes a bulk purchase of pregnancy sticks...
  • If you're running out of answers to the chronic questioning from the pregnancy paparazzi about your plans for parenthood ...

Then this is the book for you. Whether it's been three months or three years since you've been trying, the more complicated and overwhelming the process becomes.

The Conception Chronicles shares candid humor, hold-nothing-back banter and practical advice on everything that goes along with trying to start a family: from dealing with your fertile friends to the battery of tests you may have to face; from surviving "sex on demand" to navigating the ins and outs of high-tech fertility treatments. This book will guide you through the emotional journey to motherhood, offering compassion and laughter like only your best girlfriends can. And we promise you'll never hear us say, "Relax and you'll be pregnant in no time."
