Fertility and ovulation

Understanding ovulation, the egg is released from one of two ovaries, is absolutely crucial to maximize the chances of conceiving.

Correctly predicting the time of ovulation allows you to time intercourse appropriately, that will greatly increase the chance of conceiving in any given cycle.

During the first half of the monthly cycle, a woman's body produces an increasing amount of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and estrogen. The egg to be released this month is stimulated to grow by FSH. Estrogen, on the other hand, are responsible for the development of the lining of the uterus, which grows during each cycle to prepare for potential pregnancy.

The selection of egg and is released from the ovary is completely random. The release of the egg occurs about half way through each cycle. For most women, this means that ovulation occurs 14 days before the beginning of his period.

A woman with a standard length of cycle of 28 days will probably ovulation day 14 of its cycle. Lengths "normal" menstrual cycle can vary from 24 days, as long as 35 days shorter. So the "14-day-trick" is not sufficiently precise to allow perfect timing of sexual intercourse.

Predicting ovulation based on your last cycle is also ineffective, to the changing nature of your body-not every cycle will be identical in length.

Correctly predicting ovulation is one of the most important steps to maximize your chances of conception. It is also one of the most difficult to obtain. There is a chapter in "fertility plan" devoted exclusively to this subject covers in detail the more reliable methods for the prediction of ovulation with success.
