Herbs For Fertility

Herbs For Fertility

The second herb I’d like to discuss in this series on herbs for fertility is Black Cohosh. It is a native shrub of North America and can grow up to 8 feet tall. The shrub is easily recognised by its tall stalks of fluffy white flowers. Black Cohosh has estrogenic properties and it has been used in the past by Native Americans to help alleviate menopausal symptoms.

Sometimes used to treat PMS symptoms such as headache and cramp, this is one of the herbs for fertility that must be used with caution. Black cohosh has been known to create uterine stimulation, and could even initiate a miscarriage or premature birth if taken in too high a dose. Only take Black Cohosh after discussing in detail the required daily intake and when during your menstrual cycle not to take it. If breast feeding do not take this herb unless given permission by a qualified medical practitioner as it may have adverse affects on your baby.

The Black Cohosh root also has a diuretic effect and is even thought to slow down the growth of fibroids by levelling out estrogen. You can use this herb to reduce menstrual pain and PMS and when pregnant some women use it during labor although caution should be noted here as it is uncertain as to the risks if any to the baby.

The herbs for fertility that you can find as formulas online and at your natural health store might include Black Cohosh. This plant’s hormones are thought to connect with human estrogen receptors and have therefore been included in some good quality formulas.

You will be able to take Black cohosh as part of a formula or on its own as a single ingredient but you must seek qualified advice as to whether this herb is suitable for your specific needs. If it isn’t don’t worry, there are many other herbs for fertility that you can take to increase your chances of getting pregnant fast and I will be covering those over the coming posts.
